Wondering about ''fake news?" Worried you are narrowing the scope of your reading? Concerned that it is getting harder and harder to listen to opinions different from your own? Critical thinking skills are not a silver bullet and won't solve all our problems. But they can help guide us to broadening our vision and sorting out what we are hearing with a little more clarity. Join us for a brief presentation about basic critical thinking skills and an opportunity to apply them. The world needs critical thinking more than ever.
HEATHER FURMIDGE was the Program Director for Environmental Forum of Marin's Master Class 40 and a graduate of Master Class 34. She is a lifelong Bay Area resident with nearly 30 years of experience managing products and strategies for companies like Apple, Netscape, and Tech TV. She graduated from Stanford University with a BA in International Relations and earned an MBA in Telecommunications from the University of San Francisco. She went through the Master Class program over eight years ago and found it then - and continues to find it - a completely transformative program. She has worked with the Forum in varying capacities every year since - with the goal of continuing the work of training citizen advocates to protect and restore California's and Marin's unique ecology.
Heather serves on the board of the Marin Conservation League and volunteers for the Point Blue Conservation Science's STRAW program - Students and Teachers Re-storing a Watershed.
MARY C. MORGAN is a retired San Francisco Superior Court Judge and graduate of the Forum's Master Class 40. Her career on the bench spanned 30 years. She was a leader in judicial education, designing and teaching courses, as well as serving as Assistant Dean of the California Judicial College. Mary received her B.A. from Smith College and her J.D. from N.Y.U. School of Law where she was a Root-Tilden Scholar. Mary has lived in Point Reyes Station since her retirement in 2011. Actively involved in the community, she is a member of Mainstreet Moms, a citizen advocacy organization, and works with Marin Clean Energy to spread the word about renewable energy as a way to combat climate change. She also works with the Community Land Trust of West Marin (CLAM) to develop affordable housing for people who live and work in West Marin. She serves on the board of West Marin Senior Services.
