Marin County Free Library Joins Nationwide Effort to Highlight the Importance of Civic Learning

Youthful curiosity and civic engagement will abound in the Marin Civic Center March 10-14, as the Marin County Free Library, in partnership with the Marin County Elections Department, will celebrate Civic Learning Week!

The launch of a brand-new Civic Learning activities booklet designed especially for young learners will help kids explore local government, community services, and the importance of civic engagement in a fun and interactive way.

The Marin County Free Library Civic Center branch will feature kid-friendly displays and activities throughout Civic Learning Week, including:

 Civic Learning Stations at the Civic Center library and other branches with books, booklists, and the booklet of hands-on activities about how government works.

 Civics-Themed Displays introducing readers of all ages to local government and their role as community members.

“At MCFL, we believe civic learning should be engaging, accessible, and inclusive for all ages,” said Dan Oleson-Wheeler, Adult Services Librarian. “By providing educational resources and programs that celebrate diversity and foster connection, we hope to inspire the next generation of active community members.”

MCFL is proud to partner with the Marin County Elections Department to help young learners understand why voting matters and how they can engage in their communities, even before they turn 18.

“This initiative helps kids see that civic engagement isn’t just for adults—it starts with understandinghow their community works and how they can make a difference,” said Lynda Roberts, Marin CountyRegistrar of Voters.

The Civic Learning Week booklet will be available at Marin County Library branches starting March 10.

Families are encouraged to stop by, explore the activities, and pick up a copy!
