The Novato Historical Guild: "The Coast Miwok and their Trading Networks in the Novato Area”
The public is invited to attend the Novato Historical Guild’s quarterly General Membership Meeting on Saturday, December 10 from 10am to 12pm at Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Ave.
California archaeologist and retired director of the Museum of the American Indian in Novato, Teresa Saltzman, M.A. will speak on “The Coast Miwok and their Trading Networks in the Novato Area.” The Coast Miwok tribes have been exchanging items along traditional trade routes in the Novato area for thousands of years. Ms. Saltzman will review the Coast Miwok culture and history to the present. Reproductions of trade items such as obsidian projectile points and clam shell disc beads will be available for a hands-on experience and discussion. Teresa also created an exhibit on Coast Miwok trade route at the Petaluma Historical Library and Museum.
