Fred Aceves was born in New York and spent most of his youth poor and in neighborhoods similar to the one described in his book The Closest I’ve Come. Fred, who is Mexican, Dominican and 100 % American, has traveled the world and has worked as a delivery driver, server, cook, car salesman, freelance editor and teacher of English as a second language. Please join us as Fred reads from his 2017 Kirkus Best Book, The Closest I've Come, a story about crossing boundaries, discovering new things about the world and yourself, and that bravery is more than being macho.
