A former mayor of Stockton, California, Michael Tubbs was elected at the age of 26, the youngest Mayor of any major American city. The first African American mayor of Stockton, under his leadership Stockton was named an "All America City in 2017 and 2018 and was featured in the HBO documentary "Stockton on My Mind." 

Michael Tubbs currently serves as Special Advisor to Governor Gavin Newsom for Economic Mobility and is the founder of End Poverty in California (EPIC).

Tubbs has served as a fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics and the MIT Media Lab, and has been named a member of Fortune's Top 40 under 40, a Forbes 30 under 30, the "Most Valuable Mayor" by the Nation, and a 2021 Civic Leadership Award winner from the King Center. His memoir, The Deeper the Roots: A Memoir of Hope and Home, was published in November 2021.

Tubbs earned a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity and a Master of Arts in Policy, Leadership and Organization Studies from Stanford University.
